Horse-Drawn Sled on a Winter Park Road, Mønsted

A sled crossing a park road reads differently than the working sleds elsewhere in Mønsted's winter catalogue — this one moves at the pace of transport rather than labor, a horse pulling it along a route kept open through repeated use rather than deliberate clearing. Trees lining the road hold snow on their upper branches while the trunks stay dark, the contrast Mønsted relied on throughout his winter work to keep a scene from reading as flat white. Park roads like this one served both estate access and ordinary travel between villages, and the sled itself is unremarkable enough to suggest routine rather than a special occasion. The scene works as a small study in how winter light falls differently on a cleared road than on undisturbed snow to either side. From our painting art postcard collection. Postcard, 10×15 cm, 350 g/m² art stock.
