Flat marsh grasses hold the last warm color of the day as the sun drops toward the horizon, the sky doing most of the work in a landscape where a low building and marginal trees stay close to the horizon and let the gradient of colour across sky and water carry the composition. Mønsted was drawn to open terrain like this for its light, where the sky fills most of the frame. Dusk compositions of this kind sit apart from his more populated farmyard and garden scenes — quieter, closer to pure atmosphere. It rewards patience rather than incident, the kind of scene that changes slowly enough to watch. A calm choice for correspondence or a small collection of his marshland and coastal work, alongside the rest of our art postcard collection.
