Quiet Hour by the Stove — Mykola Pymonenko Postcard

Pymonenko was one of the few realists who painted the inside of a Ukrainian village house with the same patience as a landscape. Here a young woman in an embroidered blouse stands by a whitewashed stove while two figures pass through the open doorway behind her — a domestic scene held in the thoughtful light of an ordinary afternoon. The mood is private, almost conversational.

As an A6 art postcard, the work makes a quietly literate piece of mail. A favourite among collectors of Ukrainian art postcards who prefer interiors to grand views.
