Ukrainian Woman in Festive Dress — Mykola Pymonenko Postcard

Mykola Pymonenko's portraits of young Ukrainian women became, over time, an unofficial visual vocabulary for a whole country — the embroidered blouse, the red vest worn over it, the relaxed stance of someone who knows her own village. In this work the sitter pauses on a sunlit path, hands on her hips, half-smiling at the painter as if at an old acquaintance.

Reproduced as an A6 art postcard, the figure travels well. A favourite among collectors of Ukrainian art postcards and for sending a piece of Pymonenko by post.
