Scène de Rue, Paris Boulevard — Pierre Bonnard Postcard

Bonnard's Scène de rue is all shade and slow movement: dark-clad figures drift under a canopy of green along a Paris boulevard, and two small white dogs trot ahead of them like a private joke. Nothing in the picture is hurried; the trees do most of the talking, filtering the light into soft patches on the path below. It is Bonnard as an observer of ordinary Parisian life rather than its grand set pieces, closer to a diary entry than a monument, unhurried and easy to return to.
