Poppies in a White Jug — Pierre Bonnard Art Postcard

The third of Bonnard's bare-titled Flowers sets red-orange poppies and purple wildflowers into a tall white jug painted with its own trailing floral pattern, so the vessel echoes the bouquet it holds. Below it, a stack of books leans against the table edge, one wrapped in blue, others in plain brown covers, hinting at a desk or reading corner rather than a formal dining setting. The wall behind fades to a soft ochre-cream, warm but understated next to the poppies' colour. Bonnard signed this one at upper left, a quiet mark near the top of an otherwise busy canvas. It is the most domestic of the three Flowers, closer to a study table than a vase on display.
