Martin Johnson Heade — Two Hummingbirds at the Nest | Postcard

Two hummingbirds tend a nest tucked among mossy branches, sheltered under the broad leaves of a banana plant with a cacao pod hanging just above. Heade was among the first American painters to show hummingbirds living in the wild rather than mounted in a case, and this nesting scene carries his naturalist's patience for detail.

Well suited to a birdwatcher on your list, or to a nature-themed postcrossing swap.
