Martin Johnson Heade — Crimson Topaz Hummingbirds — Postcard

Among Heade's most dazzling subjects, the Crimson Topaz hummingbird (Topaza pella) is a flash of vermilion and gold in the Brazilian rainforest. One male perches on a mossy branch while a second shelters nearby in a woven nest — the two birds suspended in quiet light filtering through the canopy. Heade observed such scenes during his 1863 expedition to Brazil, part of a series of tropical studies that defined the rest of his career.

• Format: A6 postcard
• Density: 350 g/m²

A striking choice for anyone building a collection around Heade's tropical period, or for a Postcrossing partner who keeps birds.
