Gustav Klimt “Portrait of Ria Munk III” (Unfinished) Postcard

Ria Munk III was on Klimt's easel when he died in early 1918. The sitter is sketched in graphite against a completed oil ground of tulips and poppies — figure, ground, and flowers in tension, never resolved. It is one of two Klimt works in this collection that are unfinished at death (the other is Portrait of Johanna Staude). An unusual card to send or collect: evidence of work interrupted.
