Klimt — Church at Cassone (1913) Lake Garda Postcard

Klimt spent his summers on Lake Garda in northern Italy, and Church at Cassone (1913) is one of the most compressed of those landscape panels. The small church appears between cypress trees; the water fills the lower half of the canvas, tipped up like a tapestry. Klimt's lake paintings reduce a whole view to a dense, near-flat mosaic of small strokes.
