Gustav Klimt — ‘Woman in Gold’: Adele Bloch-Bauer I, 1907 Postcard

Klimt worked for three years on Adele Bloch-Bauer I, completed in 1907. Adele seems to float in a field of Byzantine eyes and Egyptian spirals — gold on gold, the face the one thing that is not ornament. The original is at the Neue Galerie, New York, following a famous restitution story after 2000. A postcard of one of the most layered and politically resonant works in early twentieth-century painting, for the collector who wants the whole weight of it, hand-held. From the painting art postcard collection. 10×15 cm, 350 g/m².
