Yerres was the Caillebotte family's country estate, and this 1875 canvas catches a quiet afternoon there: a man in a straw hat and a girl in a matching bonnet walk the gravel path toward a round bed massed with red and white blooms, the family house pale in the distance. The loose, sunlit brushwork already shows the structural patience that would define Caillebotte's later Paris scenes, turned here entirely inward, toward a private garden rather than a public boulevard.
