Caillebotte planted his own fruit trees at Petit Gennevilliers and painted other orchards in spring with the patience of a gardener. Pink-toned soil, the first leaves still small against drifts of white blossom, a single footpath cutting through the trees — a small, calm spring card, well placed beside Pissarro or Sisley in any thoughtful piece of mail.
