Watering the Garden, 1925, Peder Mønsted — Art Postcard

Painted in 1925, this is one of the late-summer garden pieces Mønsted returned to throughout his mature period. A young woman waters a bed of orange lilies while an elderberry tree breaks into white bloom behind her — late June or early July in Denmark, rendered with the botanical precision Mønsted was known for. The watering can and the loose fall of her apron give the scene an easy, unposed quality — she seems indifferent to being observed, which is precisely what gives the image its candour. In 1925, Mønsted was in his mid-sixties — these late garden paintings are among his most relaxed and confident, the handling lighter than in his large exhibition landscapes.

The 10×15 cm card on 350 g/m² stock holds the bright, almost saturated summer palette of the original intact. Useful for postcrossing in the warmer months, or as a small reproduction for collectors browsing our artist postcard collection.
