Fanny Brate — Girl Among the Red Hollyhocks

The hollyhocks rise taller than the child who tends them: red and double-petalled, they climb the wall of a red timber Swedish farmhouse, past a brick chimney warm from the morning fire. Below, in a blue apron and green dress, a small blonde girl stands among white flowers, caught mid-pick on the garden path, while a clear sky holds the whole scene in early summer light.

Fanny Brate painted this cottage more than once — it's one of the quietest cards in the series, built around scale rather than story.
