This is the kind of interior Fanny Brate was celebrated for: a wealthy Swedish drawing room bathed in window light, blue ornamental tapestries on the walls, a crystal chandelier overhead, and at the centre of it all, a red-haired girl in a blue dress carefully arranging a round table set with tea, a tart, and a jug of cornflowers and white daisies. A wider version of this scene shows a second figure entering the room — this cropped view stays with the girl alone, caught mid-task before anyone arrives.
