Emile Claus Young Woman Portrait in Profile Postcard

Long before the shimmering outdoor light of his mature work, Emile Claus painted portraits like this one: a young woman in profile, her dress a soft teal dotted with pale spots, set against a plain, neutral ground with nothing to distract from her face. It's an early, restrained piece — closer to formal portraiture than the loose, sun-drenched Impressionism he'd become known for a decade later. No garden, no river, no gesture, just a calm, attentive likeness.

A fitting choice for collectors curious about an artist's beginnings, or for a simple, elegant note that needs no season or occasion attached.
