Summer Clouds Over the River — Emile Claus Art Postcard

The sky is the real subject here, not the river beneath it. Towering cumulus clouds in cream and pale blue fill most of the composition, their shapes doubled in a calm river that mirrors every fold and shadow. A slender row of poplars lines the left bank, and tiny figures with white cattle graze in the distance, barely visible against so much open air.

Emile Claus paints this hazy, light-drenched morning with the patience of someone who has watched this stretch of river for years — among the purest sky studies in the collection.
