Emile Claus Poplar Row at Sunset Postcard

A row of tall poplar trees lines the bank of the Leie, glowing gold as the evening sun sinks behind them — not the soft peach of late afternoon but the deep, heated orange of a sun just below the horizon. Every trunk and branch doubles in the still river below, and two tiny figures stand far to the right, small enough to read as punctuation rather than subject. This is Emile Claus at his most intense, building the light in thick, urgent strokes of paint.

A striking pick for a Luminist or landscape-themed postcrossing collection, or for anyone who reads sunsets as a kind of weather report.
