Emile Claus Women on Laundry Day Postcard

One woman works at a washing tub in the background while another, in the foreground, carefully folds a piece of white linen, wicker baskets waiting at her feet and a laundry line strung overhead. Emile Claus paints the chore with the same warm, even light he gives his sunlit meadows — Luminist beauty found in working hands rather than a garden view.

A quieter, more domestic scene than his outdoor portraits, and a fitting pick for anyone who collects Impressionist genre paintings of everyday labour.
