Emile Claus Laundry Day in the Daisies Postcard

The daisies are everywhere. Elsewhere they'd be a few white dots scattered in the grass — here Emile Claus makes the meadow of oxeye daisies the dominant presence: thousands of white flowers with yellow centers crowd the foreground, pushing to the frame's edge, so the three figures hanging laundry by the cottage seem to wade through a sea of white. A woman in dark blue stretches a sheet across the line, a child helps, a third figure in yellow looks on. The cottage wall glows warm in the summer light.

Of the whole series, this is the one card with people doing ordinary work in it.
