Cottage Garden with Cats, Peder Mønsted — Art Postcard

Two cats pause at a feeding dish on the garden path, dwarfed by delphinium spires standing sentinel in blue against the greenery behind them. Climbing roses reach toward the thatched eaves, daylilies and red dahlias crowd the border, and the cottage itself all but disappears behind its own abundance. Mønsted paints the garden as the real subject here, with the animals simply passing through a border he clearly loved rendering in close, layered detail. He was painting these intimate garden studies in his late sixties, and the patience in every petal is evident.
