Cottage Doorway in Summer, Peder Mønsted — Art Postcard

Peonies and delphiniums crowd the beds below a window lined with potted plants, moss softens the thatch above, and the whole scene holds the unhurried pace of a Danish summer afternoon. It is one of Mønsted's more intimate cottage studies, built around a single quiet figure rather than a wide view of the garden — a compositional choice that makes it stand apart in his catalogue of cottage subjects. The half-timbered cottage type appears throughout his work from the 1890s onward, each version with its own season and hour.
