Bruno Liljefors — Red Fox in Snowy Spruce Forest

A solitary fox in winter is one of Liljefors' most enduring subjects. He returned to it across decades, drawn to the quiet authority of an animal that knows exactly where it is going. The painting reproduced on this postcard belongs to that line of work: a single fox moves through dense spruce, unhurried, attentive — caught in the moment before it registers anyone watching.

The composition rewards slow looking. Liljefors thinned the pigment in places to let the cold light read through, and the dark needles around the figure feel weighted with snow rather than merely covered. It is wildlife painting at its most patient.

Printed on quality A6 card, suitable for postcrossing exchanges, a framed display on a writing desk, or a thoughtful note sent to a fellow admirer of northern landscape art. A natural addition to any collection built around Scandinavian painting or the great animaliers of the late nineteenth century.
