Bruno Liljefors — Fox and Black Grouse in Snow

Predator and prey on the same page is one of the oldest pictorial subjects in European art, and Liljefors approaches it without theatre. A fox lowers itself across open snow toward a black grouse; the grouse is still, the fox is still, and the moment between the two carries everything the picture needs. There is no judgement here — only the small, exact tension of an outcome not yet decided.

The A6 card preserves that tension on heavy art paper, the deep blacks of the bird and warm rust of the fox holding their ground against the snow.
