Alpine Farmstead in Spring Below the Peaks, Mønsted

Timber outbuildings sit low against a slope still patched with old snow, while the first green of the season pushes up around the fences — this kind of transitional light was something Mønsted returned to often on his southern travels. Farmsteads gave him working architecture to set against the mountains, and spring gave him the chance to paint two seasons in one canvas. The composition favors ground-level detail over grand peaks: fence posts, a worn path, a roofline catching sun. Nothing here is arranged for effect; the untidiness feels observed rather than composed. It reads as a record of rural alpine life rather than a tourist view.
