Firewood Stacked in a Village Yard — Stanislav Zhukovsky Postcard

This is not a salon, not a terrace, not a lake. This is the part of the estate you walk past on the way to something else: a whitewashed outbuilding, a stack of split firewood against the wall, a few tall green birches and a hot yard underfoot. Zhukovsky paints it as if it deserved the same attention as a drawing room — which, in a way, is the whole point of him.
