Spring Pond Among the Birches — Stanislav Zhukovsky Postcard

Stanislav Zhukovsky returned again and again to this motif: a stand of slim birches at the edge of an estate pond, just as their leaves are coming back. In this view, the water is still enough to hold the whole stand upside-down, and the white front of a manor house glides through the trunks on the far bank — a spring scene that has barely begun.
