Dark log cottages and a small fishing barn stand close to a broad river, while behind them a slim white village church with a red dome rises among trees in full autumn colour. Zhukovsky often turned to the countryside in October, when the light is short but the palette is at its richest — deep blue water, gold and rust foliage, a single bright accent in the church wall.
