Autumn Alley — Stanislav Zhukovsky Postcard

A path turns away from the viewer between pale birch trunks on one side and a row of dark conifers on the other; the air is full of golden light, and a strip of blue sky shows where the trees thin out. Zhukovsky liked this kind of mixed-forest alley because he could play warm and cool against each other in the same picture — flickering yellow leaves, deep evergreen shadow, a pale path between them.
