Vétheuil sat across the Seine from Monet's rented house through 1878–1881, and he painted its church spire from every angle. View of Vétheuil catches the village in clear summer light: a wild poppy field in the foreground, tall poplars on the right, broken cumulus above and the spire still — quietly — at centre.
