Painted in 1887 on the outskirts of Paris, this wheat field under a pale summer sky is one of Van Gogh's earliest large landscapes. A lark rises from the ripe grain — the sole moving element in an otherwise still, sun-lit scene. The painting belongs to the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam.
