Roses — Vincent van Gogh, Saint-Rémy 1890

In May 1890 Van Gogh made a group of flower paintings at Saint-Rémy as the end of his stay approached. The roses here are white against a pale green background — the palette quieter than his famous yellow canvases, the mood of something ready to leave. He was preparing for Auvers; these roses were part of a farewell to the asylum garden. Now at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. A postcard for a quiet correspondence or a flower collection.
