Almond Blossom — Vincent van Gogh, 1890

Van Gogh painted Almond Blossom in February 1890 at Saint-Rémy when news arrived that his brother Theo and Jo had named their newborn son after him. The branches sit clear and weightless against a sky drawn straight from the prints he loved, and the picture has the rare unguarded gentleness of a gift made for a specific child.
