The Letter (La Lettre) — Renoir, 1900, Art Postcard

Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted La Lettre around 1900: two young women at a table, one in red bent to her writing, the other in white leaning in to watch. An inkwell catches the light. There is a small joke in sending this image as a postcard — a hundred and twenty years later, someone else is writing to someone else, and the picture remembers the gesture.
