Renoir — Madame Charpentier and Her Children (1878) — Postcard

Commissioned by the publisher Georges Charpentier and shown at the 1879 Salon, this group portrait helped turn Renoir toward wider public success. Madame Charpentier sits in black on a sofa with her two daughters in matching pale blue dresses, the family dog at their feet and a Japanese screen at her shoulder.
