Renoir — Geraniums and Cats (1881) Fine Art Postcard

Painted in 1881, Geraniums and Cats is one of Renoir's domestic still lifes from the period of his Italian travels — bright red blossoms heaped over a Chinese jardinière, one small kitten curled asleep on the wooden ledge below, the other alert with head raised. The composition is upright and easy, the brushwork generous; it reads less like a flower study than a small theatre of household warmth.
