Renoir — By the Seashore (1883) Postcard

A young woman in a dark blue coat sits in a wicker chair, lace at her throat, sailboats drifting on the sea behind her shoulder. Renoir painted By the Seashore in 1883 — brushwork still loose in the water and rocks, but his drawing beginning to firm up around her face. The canvas now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum.
