Bouquet of Lilacs (1875) — Renoir Art Postcard

Renoir gathered an extravagant cluster of pink, white and pale-violet lilacs into a hand-painted porcelain bowl and set it against deep shadow, so the blossoms seem lit from within. This 1875 still life is one of his most generous flower paintings — almost fragrant on paper, a quiet card to send instead of a bouquet or to keep framed above a writing desk.
