Bouquet of Lilacs, 1875 — Pierre-Auguste Renoir Postcard

Renoir gathered an extravagant cluster of pink, white and pale-violet lilacs into a hand-painted porcelain bowl and set it against deep shadow, so the blossoms seem lit from within. Loose, energetic brushwork in the flowers plays against the tighter detail of the bowl's floral pattern.
