Redouté created the botanical studies for Aimé Bonpland's important record of rare plants cultivated at Malmaison and Navarre, the gardens associated with Empress Joséphine. The publication appeared in parts between 1812 and 1817 and included sixty-four coloured botanical plates, many based on Redouté's watercolours.
