The letter has stopped writing itself. A young woman sits at a small desk before a leaded window, pen tilted lightly against her lips, blue ribbons on the bonnet at the back of her chair, pink roses in a blue-and-white jar on the sill. Outside the glass, a garden in midsummer. Edmund Blair Leighton painted Straying Thoughts in 1913 on a small panel — barely 25 by 32 cm — and the size suits the subject; this is exactly the kind of moment you might keep to yourself.
The card is an A6 art postcard, 350 g/m², glossy on the front — at home in a letter, on a writing table, or in a frame above one. A companion piece to his earlier interior A Favourite Author (1905). Browse the full Edmund Blair Leighton collection for more.
