Jerusalem-artichoke blooms — bright yellow daisy-shaped flowers on tall stems — fill a glass jug almost to the ceiling of the picture, painted in 1880. Monet treats the heads like little suns and the leaves like green weather; the table edge is hinted at rather than drawn. It is a less-known still life of his Vétheuil years and reads as a quiet brag from the kitchen garden — a card for September birthdays, for someone who grows their own, or simply for a friend who likes yellow. More in the Oscar-Claude Monet collection or on the wider painting art postcards shelf.
