Dusk, created in 1895 by Swedish artist Eugène Jansson (1862–1915), is a poetic twilight landscape immersed in deep blue and violet tones. The quiet city view is transformed by the fading light of evening, with buildings and distant forms emerging softly against the darkening sky.

In Dusk, the transition between day and night becomes the true subject of the work. Rather than describing the architecture in precise detail, Jansson allows forms to dissolve gently into the surrounding atmosphere. The restrained palette of blues, greys and muted warm accents creates a feeling of stillness and quiet anticipation.

Created in pastel, the work demonstrates Jansson's sensitivity to subtle changes of tone and light. Today associated with the collection of the Thiel Gallery in Stockholm, Dusk is an evocative example of late nineteenth-century Swedish twilight art. Reproduced as a fine-art postcard, it is a beautiful choice for lovers of Nordic art, blue-hour landscapes, historic city views, atmospheric painting and the quiet beauty of autumn evenings.
