On a colourful woven rug, a very small child sits absorbed in play: a doll pressed to her chest, blonde hair loose, a pink checkered dress spread around her. The room behind is calm and orderly — a white chair with blue-and-white striped cushioning, pale panelled walls, warm light from a doorway. The inscription "ALLE MØLLER FRU!" in the upper corner of the original marks this as a dedicated work: a painting given by Carl Larsson as a personal gift, probably to a family named Møller.
Among Larsson's domestic subjects, the smallest children — toddlers at play on the floors of Lilla Hyttnäs — form a distinct and intimate strand. These paintings are different from the composed group portraits: they follow the child's attention, not the painter's, and carry a quality of the caught moment rather than the arranged one.
This art postcard reproduces the painting on a 10×15 cm card at 350 g/m². A gentle piece for postcrossing, for correspondence with new parents or grandparents, or for a collection of Swedish genre painting. Part of the Carl Larsson series; browse all painting art postcards.
