In The Skier (Skidlöperskan, c.1909), Carl Larsson catches a figure mid-preparation: a woman in vivid Swedish folk dress — red cap, embroidered jacket, blue skirt — kneels in the snow to fasten her ski bindings. White birch trunks stand around her; through the bare branches, the warm yellow of the family house at Lilla Hyttnäs is visible. The ski poles lie in the snow beside her.

Larsson painted Sundborn through all four seasons, and the winter pictures have a quality of their own — quieter than the famous lit interiors, blue-shadowed, unpeopled except for this one figure absorbed in a practical task. The folk costume links the scene to a Swedish rural tradition; the house in the background anchors it to the specific life of the Larsson household.

This art postcard reproduces the watercolour on a 10×15 cm card at 350 g/m². Good for postcrossing in winter months, as a gift for Nordic art enthusiasts, or as part of a Larsson collection. Part of the Carl Larsson series; browse all painting art postcards.
