Capsicums, or Chili Peppers is a historic botanical illustration from Album Benary, associated with German horticulturist and seed merchant Ernst Benary (1819–1893). Dating from 1876–1886, the plate presents a carefully observed selection of cultivated Capsicum varieties, arranged to reveal their remarkable diversity of form, colour and scale.

The elongated pods, rounded fruits and distinctive bell-shaped peppers are rendered with the precision characteristic of nineteenth-century horticultural illustration. Deep red, orange, yellow and green tones create a rich visual rhythm, turning a scientific record of plant varieties into an unexpectedly decorative composition.

Works from Album Benary occupy an interesting place between botanical science, horticulture and visual culture. Detailed illustrations allowed individual varieties to be recognised and compared, while the carefully balanced compositions also reflected the nineteenth century's fascination with documenting and collecting the natural world.

This fine-art postcard brings a fragment of that botanical history into a contemporary correspondence. With its warm autumnal palette and vintage character, it is a distinctive choice for collectors of botanical art, natural history illustrations, vintage ephemera and postcrossing postcards.
