The Artist's House at Argenteuil — Claude Monet Postcard

Argenteuil, 1873. Monet paints the house he is renting that summer, working outward from the front step: a gravel path lined with blue-glazed planters, red geraniums against white walls, his son with a hoop in the shade, and a woman standing in the vine-covered doorway. It is an unhurried, domestic scene — the impressionists insisting that an ordinary afternoon deserved a canvas too.
