Charles Twelvetrees drew children the way memory does — round-cheeked toddlers in oversized coats and boots, always with an animal close by: a jockey baby on horseback, a boy fishing off the curb with his dog, a girl swinging two rabbits, a rooster startling a boy in an aviator suit. Many scenes lean into the mail itself — a boy posting a heart-shaped valentine in the snow, another filling stockings by the chimney — making this a natural pick for postcrossing swaps.
