Lady Writing a Letter, signed and dated 1887 by Finnish painter Albert Edelfelt (1854–1905), captures a quiet moment of handwritten correspondence in an elegant nineteenth-century interior. A woman sits at a writing desk, holding an envelope in one hand while writing with a pen in the other. Papers, an open glass inkwell and a large writing surface surround her, turning an ordinary act of correspondence into the central subject of the composition.

Albert Edelfelt was a Finnish painter who spent much of his artistic career in an international European environment. He arrived in Paris in 1874 and became closely connected with the city's artistic circles. Nationalmuseum notes that, although he was a skilled history painter, in Paris he also developed an interest in elegant scenes of bourgeois life, such as Lady Writing a Letter. His paintings often combine close observation of people and everyday surroundings with a refined sensitivity to light.

Reproduced as a fine-art postcard, Lady Writing a Letter celebrates the quiet ritual of handwritten correspondence. The open inkwell, pen, envelope and writing desk make it especially meaningful for lovers of letters, stationery, historic interiors, women in art, nineteenth-century European painting, vintage aesthetics, postcrossing and traditional snail mail.
